Study reveals thirdhand smoke as hidden indoor air pollutants (China Daily) 17-12-2025
A recent study has highlighted the impact of « third-hand smoke » associated with cigarettes on indoor air quality, as well as the health risks it poses. It lingers in indoor air for a long time and can release even more harmful compounds.
- Firsthand smoke: smoke inhaled directly by the smoker
- Secondhand smoke smoke: smoke inhaled by a non-smoker when they are in the vicinity of someone who is smoking
- Thirdhand smoke : toxic residues from tobacco smoke that settle on surfaces (walls, carpets, clothing, etc.) and are gradually released into the air.
