Its research lies at the crossroads between the inanimate and life: from inorganic quantum dots and porous zeolite materials to hierarchical hybrid (biological) materials. In the environmental field, the CMI is developing new highly efficient and selective adsorbent materials, catalysts and photocatalysts for the detection, destruction/conversion or recovery/separation of volatile organic compounds (VOCs). The CMI is one of the world's leading teams in this field, thanks to innovative concepts and materials whose development has been strengthened by a wide range of university and industrial collaborations. The CMI is currently collaborating with the Walloon company STUV on the elimination of pollutants from wood combustion in residential fireplaces. Partner UNamur also has solid experience in the synthesis of VOC sensor materials. In collaboration with Materia Nova, UNamur has been involved in a project to design VOC sensors.
